The Deer of Sherborne: Evening Talk, 10th May at 7.00pm
Wednesday 10th May 2023 - 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Sherborne Social Club, 10th May at 7.00pm.
Nigel, who manages the local deer population, has kindly agreed to give a talk on the Natural History of the Deer of Sherborne. He is a knowledgeable and experienced expert, and his talk should be fascinating.
He has been involved in deer management for more than 40 years – some 30 or so of those at Sherborne. He is particularly interested in how deer relate to their environment, and in the early 1990’s he took the opportunity to travel to Europe and engage with forest owners and managers as they worked to produce conditions for natural regeneration of their woodlands, at the same time providing for sustainable deer populations for hunting and wildlife value. He spent time on this project in forests in Belarussia, Poland, Ukraine, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary before working his way back through Germany and France. He has also been involved in setting up and delivering courses and training for the British Deer Society.
Nigel will talk about all the species of deer in Sherborne and how they interact with their environment, and I’m sure he’ll also take questions.
Admission is free, all are welcome, and the bar will be open!
